About Us

In 2012, after Jess’ renewed health and our retirement, we decided to travel the world “while we can.”  We left our then home state of Minnesota on October 31, 2012 to become residents of Nevada, after selling all of our worldly possessions, without storage, saying goodbye to all of our family and friends and a pleasant life of familiarity.

In our old lives, Tom worked for Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad (BN/BNSF) for 42 ½ years while I was owner of a real estate company and part-time professional writer.  We’d never dreamed of traveling the world.  We imagined our elder years of falling into a routine, typical for many seniors with a winter spot to visit to get out of the cold Minnesota winters and our home on a lake.

My less-than-ideal health, the responsibilities of caring for our aging mothers until they both passed away, the profound sense of responsibility to our family, prevented us from ever entertaining such an outrageous idea of leaving everyone and everything behind to travel the world.

It was a decision wrought with fear, trepidation and an enormous amount of planning.  One simply doesn’t pack and leave their home country without spending months in the planning while continuing to plan along the way which ultimately occupies a good portion of our time.

Early on, prior to leaving Minnesota, we made a commitment to each other…should either of us ever become tired of this life, we’d find a place to live and stop traveling.  To date, this hasn’t happened.  As a matter of fact, we laugh when we ask one another if we’re bored of tired of continually “being on the move.”  We love this life and at this point, feel that only poor health will prevent us from continuing on.

We established a strict budget to allow us to continue traveling indefinitely and have been meticulous in documenting each aspect of our travels to ensure we stay within its guidelines.

We continually strive to maintain good health, a positive attitude and a passion for each other and for our surroundings.  Over the years, we find ourselves most interested in wildlife, nature, culture and scenery that leaves us breathless.  We’ve rarely been disappointed.

And so, we continue on, writing a new post each and every day, 365 days a year, which we began a year after our first post, to share our daily lives with our loyal worldwide audience.  Doing so, has added an element of joy that is difficult to explain.  Knowing readers from all over the world are “traveling along with us” has enhanced our experiences in more ways than we could ever imagine.

Thank you, dear readers, for sharing in this adventure with us!  The best is yet to come!
